Traditional Worship Service
Our traditional worship service begins at 11:00 am each Sunday. This service employs liturgy reflecting the praise, thanksgiving, supplication and repentance of the congregants. Each service includes a sermon from the pastor and ritual prayers, readings and recitations. Beautiful choral music is performed by the Chancel Choir and traditional hymns are sung by the congregation with accompaniment of the Casavant Freres mechanical organ featuring 2164 pipes in 44 ranks. The sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated monthly throughout the year and is open to all those present. The setting for this traditional worship service is the beautiful and dignified sanctuary of First Methodist initially constructed in 1851 in the Greek Revival style, seating 360 and supporting an atmosphere of cordial solemnity.
Contemporary Worship Service (Not presently being offered)
First United Methodist Church began offering a contemporary service, known as the Genesis service, once monthly in the fall of 2011.
The Genesis service is truly a place of Open Hearts, Open Minds, and Open Doors. You can feel free to come as you are and become all you were meant to be. If you are looking for something to liven up your Sunday morning and refresh you for the coming week, then Genesis is for you.
This service is designed as a truly multigenerational contemporary service for teens, young adults, adults and families with children. The music includes the latest praise and worship songs and contemporized traditional hymns accompanied by drums, guitars, bass, keyboard and vocals. A message is offered at each service and Holy Communion is celebrated from time to time.
This worship service has been temporarily suspended. Call the church office (537-7002) if you would like to offer to assist in this service or if you have questions.
