The United Methodist Men (UMM) meet on the second Sunday morning of each month to enjoy a hearty breakfast and a featured speaker.  This active group, consisting of about 30 regular members, has for some years sponsored two annual events on the church calendar for the membership:

The Annual Sweetheart Banquet celebrates Valentine’s Day with a substantial meal prepared by the men for the adult members of the congregation and honoring the ladies of the church.  Some form of live entertainment is also provided to complete a lighthearted and fulfilling evening.  The second Sunday in each May the Methodist Men prepare a steak and egg breakfast honoring the mothers in the church on Mother’s Day.

For over 40 years the United Methodist Men have provided the leadership and financial support to establish and sustain the on-going operation of Boy Scout Troop 655.  This active troop has served hundreds of boys and and provided unique and varied opportunities for leadership, skill development, knowledge acquisition, moral development and recreation with over 50 scouts attaining the rank of Eagle Scout.  Other activities of the UMM benefitting the church and community over the years have included:  providing kitchen equipment, tables and chairs for the fellowship hall; purchase of property adjacent to the church for the construction of the barbecue shelter and pits; support of many mission efforts of the church; provision of funds for the emergency needs of individuals in the community and the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund; purchase of equipment for the Daycare facility; provision of Christmas gifts for the church staff.

Before their formal organization as the United Methodist Men in the mid-1980’s, men of the church began in the 1950’s to prepare a barbecue meal annually to raise funds in support of their causes.  The Methodist Men’s Barbecue has grown significantly in size, scope and popularity so that presently the men sponsor two annual barbecues:  in April to coincide with Cheraw’s Spring Festival and a second each year in October.
