During her lifetime Lois G McArn was an active member of the Cheraw community and of First Presbyterian Church. At her death she left to her church an endowment intended to benefit the less fortunate in the community. In 2002 First Presbyterian Church established the Lois G McArn Food Ministry. With the conyinuing help of other local organizations and citizens, this ministry helps meet the emergency nutritional needs of over 200 families in the Chesterfield & Marlboro county area who are experiencing difficulties and meet certain income guidelines. The ministry’s food bank distributes out of a downtown store front on Second Stree in Cheraw.
First United Methodist Church maintains a cash account for receiving donations from is membership for support of this effort. Additionally, a collection basket is located at the church office and many congregants weekly provide canned goods and staple items specifically requested by the McArn Food Bank and published each week in the FUMC newsletter. This is yet another continuing effort of the church to minister to the needs of our community.
