New pastor announced to congregation Sunday

During Sunday’s worship service, Staff-Parish Relations Chair Lib Norton revealed the name of the pastor appointed to serve Cheraw’s First United beginning in late June.  Norton noted that the Rev Dr Kurt McPherson is presently serving Mt Zion United Methodist Church in Central SC.  Dr. McPherson, his wife Lilly, son PJ (11) and daughter Sophie (7) will be moving to Cheraw on June 26, participating in Vacation Bible School the following day and offering his first sermon the following Sunday.  A brief biography from the Mt Zion website noted the following:  Kurt McPherson was born and raised in North Carolina. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion and Biology from Wake Forest University, a Master of Divinity degree in Counseling and Psychology from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Education degree in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University in Sarasota, Florida. He previously served as a hospital and Hospice chaplain and recently worked as a clinical director for a Hospice in Rock Hill. Kurt was raised in a United Methodist family and is happy to be back in the United Methodist system. He enjoys playing with his children, playing golf, basketball, and soccer, and watching sports on TV.
