The perennial challenge of the new generation

One of the things I have enjoyed since becoming the pastor of FUMC in June has been conducting a weekly chapel service with the children of the Preschool. I share with them stories from the Bible, pray with them, and lead them in singing songs. We sing songs like “Jesus Loves Me,” “This Little Light of Mine,” and “Rise and Shine.” They love to sing and dance around to the “arky, arky” song!
One of the great challenges of the church in today’s world is educating children in the Christian faith. Church attendance has declined in the United States and many report that regular church attendance means attending only twice a month. There also seems to be a corresponding lack of knowledge about the Bible and the basics of our beliefs.  A way to address these concerns is to employ and empower individuals who have a desire to reach and minister to children and youth.
That is why I am so excited about Sara Sanderson joining the staff of FUMC. Sara has a heart for children and wants them to know about Jesus, God, and the Bible. Her desire is for our youth to have a solid foundation of the faith to rely upon throughout life.
Please welcome Sara to our staff. Let’s support her and keep her in our prayers.
In Christ,
Kurt
