Twenty-two youth and adults have already committed to participate in the Salkehatchie Summer Service project this summer. These volunteers will be serving during the weeks of June 23-30 or June 30-July 7. All of the campers will be working on homes that are in desperate need of repair and whose owners are unable to afford themselves. In years past we have completed such jobs as repairing roofs, tearing out and rebuilding roofs, building porches and ramps, replacing floors, tearing out cabinets and counter tops and replacing them, sheet-rocking, painting, cleaning, scraping the outside of houses and repainting, plumbing work, and much more. Salkehatchie is a wonderful opportunity to serve God’s people while making use of your skills and learning valuable lessons all in an atmosphere of Christian fellowship.
Not only are the participants seeking to raise funds to defray their own living expenses during this week-long activity, but they are also trying to raise money to provide for some of the construction supplies needed to accomplish the repairs on the houses. Many supplies are donated by businesses but a need always arises for additional supplies or materials not donated.
In an effort to involve family, friends and the community in this effort, the volunteers are asking others to partner with them in the investment they are making in our neighbors’ lives. The Salkehatchie group is selling stock in our summer service mission for $10 per share. In buying shares, you also have an interest in the work accomplished this summer. On Wednesday, July 11, at 7:00 PM in the fellowship hall, there will be a Stockholder’s Meeting in which the participants will share stories and pictures from their trips with all of the “stockholders.” Desserts, coffee and tea will be served.
Salkehatchie Shares are offered in this Initial Public Offering at a cost of $10 per share. You can click here to print a Stock Certificate which can be filled in and returned to the church office. If you named an honorary participant in whose name this donation is made, they will be made aware of your Stock Purchase. All stockholders will be invited to the special Stockholders Meeting on Wednesday, July 11 to receive a Special Stockholders’ Report and update by the participants.
We encourage you to begin praying now for the families whose homes we will work on, for our leaders and for all the campers that God’s love will be evident in all we do.
In Christ’s service,
Salkehatchie Participants
