Cheraw’s fourth annual Community Jazz Mass was held October 16 on the grounds of First Presbyterian Church. The event is sponsored by the Cheraw Ministerial Alliance and concludes the week long activities of the South Carolina Jazz Festival held each fall in the hometown of jazz icon Dizzy Gillespie.
Paul Wood preached and a community choir under the direction of Mrs. Barbara Dickson renderd selections with traditional lyrics and jazz melodies. The Market Street Brass, a Greensboro NC jazz quintet, provided music throughout the service which closed with a service of Holy Communion.
