The Bishop’s recent appointment of Rev. Kenneth B. Timmerman to serve First United Methodist of Cheraw was made public this week. Ken is a native South Carolinian, born in Graniteville and receiving his undergraduate degree from USC-Aiken, earning a divinity degree from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia and since 1984 serving several churches in the South Carolina Conference. He describes himself as an avid reader with interests in a variety of sports including golf, basketball and football. There is no indication yet as to the most “pertinent question” as ties to both the upper and lower state regions leave doubt as to his Tiger/Gamecock leanings. His wife Sara Dee is an exercise enthusiast and son Cooper is a junior at Myrtle Beach High School who enjoys golf and basketball when not immersed in academics. Ken says the family is excited about this new appointment and will be joining him in Cheraw after his son graduates and Sara Dee completes some responsibilities with her current employer. Rev. Timmerman notes that his personal challenge and goal is to make each church that he serves a stronger body following his tenure. We look forward to his arrival in late June and first appearance in the pulpit tentatively scheduled for June 26.
