First Methodist’s Preschool and Nursey began in 1978 and continues today as a facility fully licensed and accredited by the state of South Carolina.  This non-profit entity provids high quality, well-staffed, reasonably priced child care services for residents of the community in a safe, caring, educational and Christian environment.

The facilities were recently upgraded, renovated and expanded to provide eleven air conditioned classrooms with new paint and furnishings and a separate dining room and kitchen to serve a hot lunch and two snacks daily.

Activities closely follow a well-defined curriculum for two, three and four year olds which includes movies, regular library visits, picnics, neighborhood walks and field trips to plays sponsored by the Cheraw Arts Commission, the McBee Pumpkin Patch and Disney On Ice.  Weekly music lessons are provided by FUMC’s music director and chapel programs are conducted by the pastor.  The playground has extensive and age appropriate equipment for active youngsters.

The Daycare is under the supervision of Mrs. Mimi Coffey who is the full-time, on-site, state certified Director of Childcare Services.

Presently 80 children aged six months to four years old are enrolled in the full-day, Monday through Friday preschool programs.  A summer program for the older children is also provided.  Current tuition rates for the full-day program are available by calling the church office at (843) 537-7002.
